Even those with the best attention to safety sometimes find themselves in an emergency situation. Your eyelids, eyelashes, and tears protect your eyes from debris and foreign objects, but emergencies still happen.
Reacting quickly could save your eyesight – in an emergency seek help immediately.
We know emergencies never happen when it is convenient. We leave room in our schedule every day to help you deal with your predicament. Optimum eye health depends on a timely response, call us first if your eyes or vision may be compromised.
Some situations can wait, these should not. Visit our office or a doctor in the case of:
There are a few common eye injuries where some immediate steps should be taken right away before you solicit medical attention. In the following cases, take a moment to do what you can to mitigate the damage.
If a chemical has been splashed, sprayed, or sprinkled into your eyes it will continue to do damage as long as it sits on the mucous membrane. Immediately flush your eye or eyes with cool water. Continue to rinse your eyes for a full 15 minutes, even if you experience relief after the first few minutes.
If an object has managed to get past your eyelids and eyelashes into your eye, do not use tweezers near or in your eyes. Particularly in the case of lashes, makeup, and pet fur try flushing the object out with water. In the case of glass or metal in your eye, it is important to seek immediate medical help.
In the case of emergency, please call our office.
